Non-Rotating Highlight Text

I'm trying to create a block with a highlight that is text that should not rotate with the block (ie always face the proper reading direction). But it seems that the highlight text always rotates no matter what I do.

What am I doing wrong? How can I get the highlight text to not rotate with the object?

thanks!

Even More Ramblings on 3D

We have found that when we move or copy electrical devices around a 2D plan, snapping to the wall lines, the devices ignore the elevation set for the device. It would be nice if the plan view blocks were always at 0 elevation, but the 3D blocks would be offset whatever the designated elevation is.

It is very common for us to "chase" walls around as the architects tweak the designs. We end up readjusting the device elevations after moving the devices and snapping to the wall line.

Equipment Creation

Before you implemented the current equipment dialog enhancement, I requested that you include the ability to override the circuit requirements such as breaker size and feeder in this dialog box. This is really needed since this information is usually known when the equipment is first created. The way it works now requires a multistep process for most equipment since rarely does the equipment use the DM standard feeder sizing. My suggestion is to incorporate the circuit loads override section of the circuiting dialog (image attached) into the equipment dialog. When the equipment is circuited, this data would be applied to the circuit. If this data is changed later either in the equipment box, or the circuiting box, both would be changed.

Without this option, it is too easy to miss setting the proper feeder info which for some items could be significant.

Multi-motor Assemblies

Our office is attempting to circuit a HVAC Air Handler unit that has a single point of connection for 15 motors on the supply side and 15 motors on the return side. The limitations of Designmaster is (4) maximum motor loads.

I am requesting that the interface be reprogrammed to accept a user input variable for the quantity of motors.
Perhaps even another pop-up dialog for multi-motor assemblies of this magnitude.

In this particular case, all 15 motors are identical. Perhaps a function to input the motor loads could be added and then to repeat that info the user defined number of times.

Thank you for your consideration.

I am going to be pushing for an opening for an electrical cad drafter or designer with Designmaster experience. I won't have to push very hard. If anyone is interested, email your resume to me at tgastont@sbcglobal.net. I will be looking for someone with some design capabilities preferably, but will consider drafters who want to grow - fast! Now for the hump - we are located in New Hampshire. Don't let that stop you if you aren't somewhat adventurous. I just moved here from Texas and love it! The ideal person will also be willing (however grudgingly) to use Revit when we are unable to talk the Architects/owners out of making us use it. So, some Revit knowledge will be a plus. If you know someone who is currently unassigned, pass this on to them.

3D Blocks

Some observations I have made in using 3D feature of Design Master/Autocad:

I have found that I can move the 3D blocks separate from the plan view blocks in autocad which is good, since that is what I needed to do (see a previous post). But I have also found that when I move a plan view block by the insert point and snap it to a wall line, it changes elevation to 0 (the level of the wall line), even though when queried, it shows that it is still at the proper elevation. Running "coordinate drawing and database" does not correct the elevation.

Using Design Master to export 3D blocks and then using Autocad to export IFC of the 3D block and bringing that into Revit is working well (as long as the 3D blocks are at the correct elevations).

Switched receptacles

Some what of a general question, but how do most of you handle a dwelling switched receptacle so that you account for it on the power plan and the lighting plan?

Here is how I do it and not sure if there is a better way:
When I create the receptacle (the block has one side shaded so it looks different than a standard receptacle) I create two loads, the first is .90VA and is a receptacle. The second load is .90VA and is a light. In the switched receptacle schedule note I say to wire the switch power to the top and the non-switch to the bottom. I then circuit the switch, switched and non-switched receptacles to the same breaker. Then I home run from the switch which shows a H-N-G tick. I then loop from the switch to the switched receptacles and do a H-H-N-G tick mark on the loop. I leave the standard receptacles alone and only show the circuit label.

When inserting the switched receptacle I put it on a special layer system that will keep it on in the power and lighting sheets. Seems to work, but is a problem if I have more than one switch on a breaker. I also am making an assumption that the electrician knows he needs to only run one wire to the other receptacles. Also, I once had a question to why I have receptacles on the lighting plan. Does anyone have a better way or see a flaw in using this method?
