Hi,

I'm designing a system where I mix air coming my heatpump and air coming from an hrv. Is that possible in DM? Can I have two supply lines blending into one?
Thanks,

Ghost Lines from current layer

While using Design Master HVAC, from time to time sporadically ghost lines from fittings/ducts are left on the screen. These bits and pieces are the same layer as the current layer. For example: I draw 24x12 duct with turning vanes. Multiple fittings, taps, etc are drawn including connections to diffusers. Then the cfm for the diffusers is reduced, resulting in smaller duct after the system is calculated. However, some of the previous size duct outlines, turning vanes, etc....bits and pieces are left on the screen. Re-calculating the system does no good. Even if you completely delete all the duct. diffucers, etc.....the bits and pieces remain. I have started always keeping DEFPOINTS layer current so that at least the bits do not plot. Any ideas??

No Cooling Supply CFM Please...

Hi,

I've modeled a room to have no CFM to it at all, only walls, roofs and windows cooling and heating load. Yet, when I run the calculations, it shows a Cooling Supply CFM (no Heating Supply CFM though) in the Supply Air Requirements?

I would attach a JPEG of the results, but the insert attachments and insert image functions don't work.

Diffuser Sizing question

Is there an easy way to have DM auto size diffuser cfm levels based on the heat load calculations and a given input air volume.
What I was wanting to do is:
1) layout diffuser positions.
2) give an air handler CFM
3) DM auto sizes diffuser volumes based on the heat load of the rooms that the diffusers are in and the given volume.

Please let me know if there is a way to do this.
Thanks

Solar Gain but no Heat Transfer Wall

I'm trying to model-up a wall that has Heat Transfer and Solar Gain but does not have OSA Temperatures for Other Side. The wall in particular has windows but is bordered by a heavily-glassed, tempered vestibule. The option to change the Partition Temperatures when I pick Heat Transfer and Solar Gain (Wall) is greyed out. Essentially, I need to option Solar Gain but no Heat Transfer.

Does anyone know of a way to trick my model to take that into account?

Thanks,

Pressure Calcs

Hi,

It seems to me that no matter what system airflow you indicate to DM (Supply, Return, Exhaust, or Outside Air), it always performs the pressure drop calcs as if it were a supply duct. It always indicates positive pressures and never negative pressures. Is there an assumption made that if you reverse flow in a duct system, the pressure will be exactly the same? For example, if a supply system is calculated to require 1.234" of pressure. If cfm are locked and all the duct stays exactly the same, the only change is that flow is reversed, is it safe to say that the fan will require -1.234" of pressure? It's really more of an engineering question than a software question. Does reversing airflow create a mirror image of the static pressures (in real life)? Is it a simple exercise of changing positive to negative symbols? If reversability is the same, then this shouldn't really matter. I've had client reviewers reject my calcs because it's showing positive pressures on negative ductwork. Any advice? I can't get the attachments to work here.

Ducts that just go crazy...

As I modify and reposition duct runs, every so often when the duct branch is re-calculated one of the ducts just extends out way past any of the drawing. The lastest one extend 1850 feet. I have gone back into each duct run and checked to make sure settings were correct both upstream and downstream. Sometimes I have to completely redraw the branch to get everything to work again. Has anyone else come accross this same issue?

Issue with 100% Outside Air Zone

This issue I'm having is with a zone that is being served by a 100% outside air unit. The unit serves three rooms. Only one of the rooms actually requires 100% outside air. When I set that room to 100% OA, it changes the Zone to 100% OA (this is what I want). The other two rooms say they are only at 30% OA, however I thought since the Zone was 100%OA, that all of the calcs would be based on everything being 100%OA. After hand checking some of the calcs, not enough load was being provided. I had to change every room to 100% OA in order for the Zone to have enough load.

My question is if the Zone says it is 100% OA, why is the zone load not enough to cover 100%OA?
